Kindergarten – Mrs. Gradig
WOW! The year is flying by! We are past the halfway mark and, boy, does it show. I have seen so much growth in all of the students.
We are busy exploring in Kindergarten! In social studies we are exploring Kansas! We are learning about the state symbols and state resources. Soon we will start to explore different places to go/live: city, farm, beach, and woods. We will explore the similarities and differences they have and the types of transportation that can be used in each place. In math we have just completed a chapter on numbers 10-30 and will be soon exploring all aspects of money. We will learn about the penny, nickel, dime, and quarter. We will learn what they each look like and how much each is worth. In phonics we just completed the book Zip and we will soon start our seventh book.
We will be celebrating Kansas’s birthday the week of January 23-27. We have several activities scheduled for that week including visiting a dairy, the Downs Train Depot, and Lazy Daisy.
Library – Mrs. Gaston
Reading about three polar bears and a little girl, Kansas Day and famous Kansans, and a mouse that rides a motorcycle are some of the subjects we have read about in the library for the month of January. Next month we will turn our attention towards the colors of red and white, the subject of love, and two very special presidents from American history that have birthdays in February. HAPPY READING!
Second Grade – Mrs. Clausen
The second graders started off the new year learning many new things. In math they are learning new concepts with two-digit addition and subtraction. They are doing a great job with this. The students also have finished their final theme in their first reading book. It had many interesting stories about different kinds of friendships. They are now ready to start their next book and read many stories about various kinds of families and other interesting topics.
If you visited our classroom you would see that the dinosaurs have arrived. They are everywhere along with many activities and books that pertain to dinosaurs. The students are learning about many different dinosaurs and will soon become experts on the subject. They have started their own dinosaur book and are also learning the “dinosaur songs.”
The second graders are also making a Kansas Book with many interesting facts about Kansas. Also included in this book is each symbol for Kansas and what it represents.
